Designed by Seattle innovator Gideon Kramer, the Ion Chair made its debut at the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, an icon of futuristic Northwest design. With its sculpted fiberglass shell, flexible suspension system, and sleek chrome base, the Ion redefined comfort and form for the atomic age.
This set includes five matching chairs in their original rust-toned upholstery with orange fiberglass backs. A sixth chair is also included, but it has a grey painted back with the same upholstery and timeless silhouette. The design is fluid and sculptural, balancing utility and artistry with an ease that still feels modern today.
Beautifully preserved with light wear consistent with age, these Ion Chairs are functional pieces of Seattle design history. They are bold, elegant, and unmistakably original. The upholstery shows slight wear along the tops, most likely from years of hands resting there, although there are no rips or tears.
