I’m a big fan of this large executive Danish desk. While many folks may prefer to see this 60+ year old beauty stripped of its original stain and given a new life with a brand new modern coat, I think of it a bit differently. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I much prefer the storied patina this desk has yielded over the years to a new stain. I love imagining that the person who used this desk in its early years was probably right handed given the wear in that particular area of the desk. I love wondering what sort of lamp sat on the upper right side of this teak surface leaving a circular impression and proof of its existence. Those darker spots leave me curious and exercise my brain with so many possible stories to appreciate and ponder. So, for me, the only thing I’m going to cover up these character marks with is another lamp, a few books, my morning coffee, and anything else to compliment and appreciate its originality. And should you choose to make this unique desk your own, the decision to retain its current state or embark on a new journey with a fresh stain will be all yours to make.
