A signed Ortega Mexican folk art rooster, from the Ortega family tradition of Jalisco, Mexico, known for wonderfully imaginative hand-sculpted and brightly painted animal figures. The bird is covered in individually applied, multicolored feather-like elements with enormous red wings, bright yellow feet, and a color palette that seems determined to use every paint available.
This one has lived a life and shows noticeable wear and losses, which we’ve reflected in the price. But somehow that only adds to its wonderfully eccentric folk-art personality.
